With a long history of over 1,000 years, Gaobeidian Folk Custom Village is located in Chaoyang District, Beijing, eight kilometers from Tian'anmen Square, and through which the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Canal runs. It's very convenient to visit famous Beijing attractions from there.
高碑店村民俗闻名Classical Furniture Street and Tea House Cultural Street in Beijing. The 1.5 kilometers long Classical Furniture Street is home to over 300 stores which deal mainly in furniture from theMingandQingdynasties. Walking along the street, you can see pseudo-classic style stores lining its sides, through which you can get a glimpse of the delicate antique furniture that's filled with a profound cultural ambience. Tea House Cultural Street is rather famous in Beijing, and it attracts batches of artists and investors to open tea houses, handicraft stores and curios shops, which helps the village to develop in leaps and bounds.
Known as the nearest village to Beijing in China, Gaobeidian Folk Custom Village is very close to Beijing CBD (Central Business District), which has enabled it to become a village within the city. As time has gone by, Gaobeidian Folk Custom Village is no longer prosperous in inland navigation, but in its traditional folk customs which have lasted from one generation to another, including walking on stilts, playing diabolo, doing the Yangko and beating waist drums, for which 15 households in the village have been awarded "Olympic Homestays" by the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee. You're highly recommended to visit one of the Olympic Homestays to fully appreciate their charm.
