Beijing's Jindinghu (Lake Jinding) Ski Resort is part of theBeijingJindinghu Tourism Region. The ski resort lies just northeast of the village of Jugezhuang, Miyun County, about 80 kilometers north-northeast of the heart of Beijing and some 15 kilometers east of the town of Miyun. By automobile, it is only about a 45-minute ride from Beijing. Covering an area of 9,880,000 square meters (9.88 square kilometers), Lake Jinding Ski Resort is the largest and one of the most popular tourist venues in the greater Beijing area. The ski resort, located near the shores of Lake Jinding, naturally takes its name from the lake.
Lake Jinding Ski Resort is built with an eye to the tastes and preferences of the Chinese skiers, yet draws on the expertise of foreign constructors of ski resorts, especially as regards the technical standards that govern the construction of the slopes themselves (in fact, many Chinese ski resorts represent partnerships between Chinese and foreign developers). Lake Jinding Ski Resort has accordingly been carefully planned and designed to satisfy a broad range of skill levels, from the neophyte to the more experienced skier, and including a children's piste, a snow-board piste and a snowmobile trail. The resort has a 1300-meter ski piste for national-level training, a 360-meter ski piste for medium-level skiers, a 700-meter ski piste for beginners and a gently sloped "piste" (trail) for children that is 140 meters long.
Jinding Ski Resort comprises a 10,000-meter square building complex consisting of 20 European style lakeside villas, numerous Chinese and Western restaurants, bars and cafés, facilities that rent – and shops that sell – skiing equipment, a special VIP hall, and an office complex for the resort's management staff. A large parking lot adjacent to the ski resort can hold up to 50 buses and 200 compact cars for the benefit of those who desire to visit the resort in pre-arranged groups or in their own or a rented vehicle.
