Usually passengers to/from Yichang are for the Yichang-Chongqing Yangtze cruise trip.
Yichang's airport (Three Gorge Airport) is 26 kilometers away from the city center. There are a few flights to Beijing daily. If the airlines offer good discount, the flight transportation option can be very competitive.
If you want to catch the Yangtze cruise after the train, it is recommended to arrive at train station before 17.00. And if you want to catch train at Yichang after the cruise trip, it is recommended to book the trains depart after 14.00. Then you will have enough time for trains check in procedures.
