Guangzhou Opera House was designed by Zaha Hadid, who was the first woman to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Located downstream of the Pearl River, the opera house looks like two pebbles washed and smoothed by the river. The irregular-shaped buildings and the towers of Guangzhou CBD look like a fantasy landscape.
Adopting a futuristic design and state-of-the-art technology, the opera house is one of the three biggest theaters in China, along with the National Grand Theater in Beijing andShanghai Grand Theater. In 2014, Guangzhou Opera House was rated as one of the 10 best opera houses around the world byUSA Today.

The Opera Hall
Guangzhou Opera HouseGuangzhou Opera House looks like two pebbles - one large pebble and a smaller one. The larger pebble serves as the opera hall.
The opera hall is an asymmetric structure with 1,687 seats in three stories. The streamlined walls and special pits in the hall provide an unrivalled acoustic effect in the auditorium for the entire audience. When you look above you from your seat, you'll see that the ceiling is as beautiful as a starry sky.
The opera hall's stages consist of the main stage, the left and right wings, and the rear stage. The entire stage axis is 74 meters wide and 46 meters deep, with the proscenium being 18 meters wide and 12 meters high.
The Experimental Theater
The smaller pebble serves as an experimental theater.
The Experimental Theater has 443 seats. The audience seating and even the stage are movable to adapt to the requirements of the performances.
The Modern Gallery
Guangzhou Opera House not only creates the world's top auditory feasts but also visual delicacies of modern art.
A modern gallery is set in the non-performance area of the opera house with artwork that has been created by new prominent artists from all around the world.

Guangzhou Opera HouseTake Metro Line 3 or 5 to Zhujiang New Town Station. Walk south from Exit B1 for about 500 meters.
If you are in the downtown area, take the APM Line to Guangzhou Opera House Station.

Tips:
Your visit will be guided by an interpreter at the following hours: 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm.
During working days, the opera house only accepts groups of more than 10 people and a reservation must be made at least one day in advance.
