Asia's premier international tourist city has many good restaurants that provide special service for children.These six big restaurants are local kid's favorites, and were chosen to match your budget whether high or tight.

  • #1 and #2:The first two,Pizza ExpressandJollibees, are really popular with local kids and are medium- or low-priced restaurants. Both are inideal Central locationsfor tourists.
  • #3: Lung King Heenwas chosen because it is a luxurious restaurant that is children friendly. It provides the best Cantonese food, the best service and the best atmosphere in the whole region of Hong Kong and Guangdong Province.
  • #4 and #5: Disneyland's Starliner Diner and Noah's Ark's Harvest Restaurantwere chosen because they are in big Hong Kong resorts that cater primarily to children. You might choose to stay at their hotels.
  • #6 IKEA Shatin's restaurantwas included at the end because it is a low-price children friendly restaurant that is popular with both local kids and expats.

1. Pizza Express at Soho

Pizza Express. It is a little pricey (about 500-HKD-and-up/per family, 65 USD), but the upside is that the food tastes better than usual. There is a special kid's menu featuring smaller portions.

It is easy for tourists to go tobecause it is close to the IFC Mall and next to the famed Mid-levels Escalator that provides quick and free transport.

An option is giving your child or children a party treat. For kid's parties, your children can play and craft their own pizzas for the fun of it. They can choose the toppings they want.

  • For kids:There is a special kid's menu with smaller portions and a full set meal including dessert.
  • For parties:Areas of the restaurant can be reserved. Balloons, a chef's hat and apron, and other party articles are available. The price is 220 HKD (28 USD) per child.
  • For adults:There is a wide range of Western food and fancy desserts. A selection of fine wine is available at economical prices, and the menu includes pastas, salads, and adult beverages.
  • Environment:Tourists will like the convenient Central location near the Mid-levels Escalator and attractions such asVictoria Peak. This restaurant is big and has three glass-walled floors at a main Central location where Lyndhurst Terrace, Cochrane, and Gage Street converge. So while you eat you can watch the city scenes below.

The upscale restaurant, though it especially caters for kids, is also afavorite regular place to eat for the local office workerssince the food is good but not over-pricey and the environment is relaxed.

  • Transport by MTR:Central Station. Go through the IFC to the Mid-level Escalator and get off at Cochrane Street and Gage Street. The restaurant is right next to the stairs. Orfrom the Central ferry piers, go through the IFC Mall to the Mid-level Escalator.
  • Other locations convenient for tourists:Tsim Sha Tsui at 35 Ashley Rd. (MTR: Tsim Sha Tsui Station) and Wan Chai at 10 Wing Fung St. (MTR: Wan Chai Station)

2. Jollibees

A surprising Filipino fast food restaurant, with slightly exotic yet familiar flavors, in Central.

Like Pizza Express,Jollibees is a local kids' favoriteplace to go. What makes it a winner is the nice atmosphere, smiley faces, and the good value for better-tasting kid's staples: fried chicken, hamburgers, and spaghetti.

However, the spaghetti you'll get isn't the usual noodles and meatballs. It ispineapple Hawaiian spaghetti.The tastes you'll find there are unusual. It is authentic Filipino food, and local kids say the food tastes better. It is also cheaper than, or at least priced the same as, KFC or McDonalds.

  • For kids:There is akid's meal deal:Yum burger, chicken and rice, or spaghetti and soft drink. Hot dogs cost about 12 HKD (1.55 USD), and it is one of the few restaurants in Hong Kong that serves them.
  • For adults:A double hamburger with fries and a soft drink costs about 24 HKD (3.10 USD). Try the "coolers" or pearl tea drinks if they are available. The coconut coolers has a strong coconut flavor.
  • Environment:The restaurant's main goal is to serve families. The location outside the IFC Mall and next to a main exit for Central MTR Station is excellent for tourists. It is crowded during lunch hours and on Sundays.
  • Open:Monday – Saturday 7:30 am to 8:30 pm, Sunday 7:30 am to 9 pm

3. The Super Luxurious Lung King Heen at the Four Seasons Hotel

TheMichelin Guideis published annually and rates quality restaurants around the world. The2012 and 2013 reviews only lists five 3-star restaurantsin the whole of China, including Hong Kong and Macau. So it is worth a special journey.

  • For kids:The kid's menu includes traditional Chinese soups, such as Bird's Nest Soup with Minced Chicken and Congee with Fillet of Garoupa and Egg. There are also vegetarian selections and simple dishes for children such as Scrambled Egg with Shrimp.
  • For family parties:You could reserve a private room for 12.
  • For adults:Seafood and dim sum are the house specialties. Expect the best quality.
  • Environment:This is basically one of the best restaurants in Hong Kong. The service, food and dining atmosphere is among the best in the world. You might reserve aVictoria Harbor viewthat affords a seat at 8 pm for theSymphony of Lights. Children would like that. Reservations are essential.

4. Starliner Diner at Disneyland

This fast food restaurant is listed because it is inHong Kong's biggest children's attraction.

Disneylandis the local big theme park that most excites small children. Hong Kong's resort is mainly meant for children aged about 12 or less. There is a diner in each of the theme lands. Kids especially like the American fast food at Tomorrowland's Starliner Diner.

  • For kids:The menu includes fried chicken, fries, hamburgers, and soft drinks. The food is better than McDonalds' food.
  • Environment:Disneyland is meant more for preteen children than Hong Kong's other large theme park calledOcean Parkthat caters to all ages. The space-themed fast food restaurant is a place for your excited kids to take a break. It is often crowded.
  • Location:Lantau Island
  • Transport:Take the special Disneyland Resort MTR line that goes straight to it.

5. Harvest Restaurant at Noah's Ark

Harvest Restaurant has a theme park setting, interesting surroundings, and good food value for the money.

It is a buffet restaurant that specializes in catering to families and children's groups. The restaurant is at the front of the ark, but you can access the restaurant by special side doors, so you don't need to buy tickets for themain theme parkjust to have a meal.

  • For kids:The seafood buffet costs 200 HKD for children. Kids will probably like seeing the theme park's museum exhibits. They'll like the view of the channel from the window and seeing Tsing Ma Bridge.

The ark sits on a nice white public beach calledTung Wan Beach. Some fun at the beach, visiting the free Ma Wan Park and/or the theme park, and a meal with your children would be a memorable treat.

There is a small resort hotel in the ark that is designed for families. The room rates are economical.

  • For adults:The restaurant is known for its large portions and low prices on its high quality lunch selections. The seafood buffet includes various meat and poultry selections and a variety of desserts for 350 HKD (45 USD) total. This isn't actually very expensive by Hong Kong standards.
  • Environment:The attractions are of epic proportions. Noah's Ark onMa Wan Islandis a full size replica of the ancient ark (137 meters long and five stories high) and the centerpiece of a children's theme park. The ark sits under one of the world's longest suspension bridges calledTsing Ma Bridge.
  • Restaurant hours:10 am to 9:30 pm
  • Transport:A bus from Tsing Yi Airport MTR Station leaves every 8 minutes or so. The bus stop is conveniently located right in front of Exit C. The fare is 9.50 HKD (1.20 USD). The trip takes about 10 minutes.
  • Address:33 Pak Yan Road, Ma Wan Island.

6. IKEA Restaurant

瑞典宜家的餐厅在大沙田麸皮ch has earned a reputation for quick service, good value for healthy food, and for being family friendly. IKEA is a Swedish department store.The diner is popular with local kids.

  • For kids:The children's menu includes a small plate of spaghetti with organic sauce, two sausages, and an organic drink for only 17 HKD or about 2 USD. There are high chairs, a play area, and changing stations.
  • For adults:The Swedish meatballs are the favorite. The desserts are delicious. A full meal including dessert for an adult will cost about 8 to 10 USD.
  • Environment:The restaurant is a cafeteria-style restaurant meaning that the food is already prepared. You order what you want, and they serve it to you. Since it has become so popular, it is often crowded.

Butif there are no lines, the service is quick. Refills on the soda pop is free. Much of the food is organic, but the prices are low.

  • Hours:8:00 am – 10:00 pm (weekdays); 9:30 am – 10:00 pm (weekends/PH)
  • Address:L6, Home Square, 138 Sha Tin Rural Committee Road, Sha Tin.
  • Transport:MTR Shatin Station Exit B, next to New Town Plaza.

Other Alternatives

  • McDonalds:The above six recommendations are specific restaurants, but McDonalds are everywhere, and they offer about the cheapest fast food in the city. The one at the IFC Mall is in a busy central location tourists go to.
  • Spaghetti House:This is a middle-priced chain restaurant that serves Western- and American-style food. They cater to families and children. Hong Kong has dozens of them. A spaghetti or pizza meal costs about 15 US dollars per adult.
