Weather:December is the driest month. It isdry and very cool. It rarely snows, but it occasionally freezes. The temperature difference between day and night is large. The average daily low and high temperatures are respectively 3 °C (37 °F) and 15 °C (59 °F). There is only about 12 mm of total precipitation that falls in 4 or 5 days of the month.

Things to Do in Kunming in December
Cui Lake Park:The big park is called "Green Lake Park" in English. It is themost popular city parkfor tourists because of its big pond that is an attraction for migratory birds (see above). Every year, flocks of black-headed gulls from Siberia spend the winter in the park. You can feed them, and this adds to the fun. You can watch the locals make music, perform, exercise, and paint and rent a boat to go out and enjoy the scenery.
Shop:There are convenient places to shop downtown at Dongfeng Road, Qingnian Road, and Zhengyi Road. These malls and small shops sell a variety of products including foreign brands, locally produced crafts products, and locally grown Chinese herbal teas and many varieties of green tea. Enjoy the shopping and get bargains on artistic crafts products such as Sani handbags, wax print fabrics, and souvenirs.
Dine:Kunming has restaurants for both foreign cuisines and Chinese cuisines. China has many regional styles of cuisine. Kunming's specialties include Steam Pot Chicken and Over the Bridge Rice Noodles. You may enjoy Sichuan style cuisine if you like red hot or peppery food.
Spelunk at Jiuxiang Cave
The spectacular cave at JiuxiangJiuxiang Cave:When it feels too cold, you can keep warm and see a place lit up as with Christmas lights. Jiuxiang Cave is one of the largest cave systems in China. It is one of the naturalhighlights of the area, and it is only two hours from the center of Kunming. Starting with a boat cruise in the river, you'll see waterfalls, underground rivers and streams, and many beautiful rock formations that are highlighted with colorful bright lights.
You can hike for hours on paths both inside the caves and in the park outside. At the end of your tour, you can hike back or choose to take a scenic cable car ride back to the parking lot. Most of our clients rate the caves as excellent.
