Weather:The summer weather in Tibet is pleasant and even warm during the day. In June, the first half is generally dry, but the heavy monsoon rains or snows start in the middle of the month. The combination of warm weather, less rain, and fewer tourists than in the rest of the summer makesJune one of the best months to travel and hikein Tibet.
Most tourists arrive in Lhasa, and it is one of the lowest elevation valleys that tourists usually go to at a high altitude of 3,600 meters (12,000 feet). June and July are the warmest months in Lhasa, and it is sunny about 8 hours a day. The rainfall falls mainly at night. The average daily high is20 °C (68 °F), and the average nightly low is6 °C (43 °F). The high altitude makes it feel warmer.Check the Lhasa weather forecast>>
Clothing:Around Lhasa, light winter clothesare still needed, and you could wear T-shirts in the sunshine, but we suggest that you cover up to avoid sunburn. The solar radiation is more intense the higher you go. Havea coat and glovesfor higher mountains.Sunglasses and sun hatscan protect you too.
Altitude Sickness:The oxygen in the air in Lhasa is only2/3of that at sea level, and it is even lower in most of the rest of Tibet. A health check is advisable before you go because conditions such as asthma, high blood pressure, and heart disease are exacerbated. Most visitors get altitude sickness, and it is important to acclimate before exerting yourself in higher altitudes. SeeTibet travel health advice>>
