Guangzhou is a rising tourism city in South China and Beijing is the capital and a popular destination in North China. A journey from Guangzhou to Beijing crosses most of China.

Due to the rapid development of transportation, this may seem like a long journey but it won't take too long. Read on to find out how to travel between these two large cities.

By Air

There are about 30 flights departing fromGuangzhou Baiyun International Airportto Beijing every day. Most of the flights arrive inBeijing Capital International Airport. The journey takes about 3 hours.

Until September 30th, 2019, a few flights will arrive in Beijing Nanyuan Airport but after that date, these flights will land at the newly openedBeijing Daxing International Airport.

Downtown Guangzhou to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

It takes about 1 hour to get from downtown Guangzhou to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport via the metro, so you are advised to set aside 2 hours to arrive at the airport.

  • Take Metro Line 2 to Jiahewanggang Station.
  • Transfer to Metro Line 3 (North Extension) to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

Please note that Guangzhou Metro Line 3 and Metro Line 3 (North Extension) are two different lines.

A more convenient way to travel is to use the airport shuttle service at your hotel. Most of the big hotels in Guangzhou provide this service.

Beijing Capital International Airport to Downtown Beijing

It takes about 1½ hours to get there by metro. If your flight arrives late at night, you may risk missing the last train.

  • Take the Airport Express line from Terminal 2 or 3 to Dongzhimen Station.
  • Transfer to Metro Line 2 to Jianguomen Station.
  • If you are going to Wangfujing or Tian'anmen Square, transfer to Line 1.

If your hotel provides an airport shuttle service, use it because it will save you a lot of time and hassle.

Daxing Airport Express (a metro line) will begin operating at the same time as the airport in September 2019.

Highspeed train in ChinaTraveling by train is another excellent option. There are two kinds of trains in service from Guangzhou to Beijing, namelyhigh-speed trains (G)andnormal trains (Z or K).

High-Speed Trains

High-speed trains have train numbers that start with G. These trains run at an incredibly high speed and will take you from Guangzhou to Beijing in 8 to 10 hours, which means your journey that crosses most of China from south to north can be done in one working day.

There are five trains departing at 07:46, 09:00, 10:00, 11:17, and 12:50 every day fromGuangzhou South Railway StationtoBeijing West Railway Station. The trains G80 (09:00–17:00) and G66 (10:00–18:00) are the most recommended.

Ticket prices:

  • Business-class seat: 2,724 yuan (about 380 USD)
  • First-class seat: 1,380 yuan (about 190 USD)
  • Second-class seat: 862 yuan (about 120 USD)

As the trains are limited and the tickets sell out quickly during peak seasons, you are recommended to book your train ticket(s) at least 1 month before departure, or as early as you can.

  • Take Metro Line 3 (North Extension) to Jiahewanggang Station.
  • Transfer to Line 2 to Guangzhou South Railway Station.

Normal Trains

There are four normal trains in service from Guangzhou to Beijing. They are all overnight trains and the journey takes 22 to 30 hours. They are only useful if you don't mind spending a long time traveling and are on a budget.

Ticket prices:

  • Luxury soft sleeper: 1,445 yuan (about 200 USD)
  • 软卧:784元(约105美元)
  • Hard sleeper: 456 yuan (about 60 USD)
  • Hard seat (not recommended): 251 yuan (about 35 USD)
